- Powdergate, a multi-award winning investigative series on an alleged $44 million scam within New Zealand's dairy industry. Seven men were successfully prosecuted for conspiracy to defraud 2001 – 2007. In 2007, the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists featured the investigation in its on-line professional development resource, at www.ifaj.org/news/powdergate.html
- Sponsored by the German and French Governments to study biotechnology and elements of the Common Agriculture Policy in their countries, 2002.
- Sponsored to Chengdu, Sichuan, China by the Affco meat company to report on a NZ-China joint venture, 2000
- Wrote a chapter on agricultural history, The farmers' life, in the NZ Herald Book of the Century, 1999.
Rural News:
- Under Philippa's editorship Rural News reporters scooped the pool at the annual agricultural journalism awards in 1996, winning more awards than any other single paper including the supreme Rongo Award for Excellence in Agricultural Journalism, which Philippa won for a year-long investigation into financial practices in the dairy industry.
Terra Nova:
- Philippa's 1992 investigation of the legacy of decades of use in the timber industry of the toxic, anti-sapstain chemical pentachlorophenol (PCP) resulted in two, multi-award-winning stories that revealed the official record hid the extent of the pollution and the suffering experienced by workers.
Waitangi Fellowship:
- Philippa was the first journalist to be awarded a Waitangi Fellowship, and used the sponsorship of the NZ Meat Producers Board to study the meat industry in Europe, NZ's most important market.
National Farming News:
- Philippa's 1989 investigation into stockpiled old, disused and dangerous chemicals on farms and the total lack of disposal options available to farmers was instrumental in bringing about methods for collection and disposal initially in the Waikato, and subsequently nationwide. The series also won a journalism award.
